Be yourself. Do not act like someone else in order to be liked – it never works in the long run. Don’t kill him. Don’t hit on your ex’s enemies. Don’t hit on his best friend. It hurts your ex’s feelings, but some people use it as revenge. Be subtle before you try anything obvious, you need to pick up his signals first. You don’t want to look desperate. Tell him you still love him. Be honest with him and yourself. Let him know you want this to work.
Relationships are complicated! There are lots of resources out there that try and explain or give advice on how to handle them. They cover mostly the common sense stuff, like saying "I love you" and remembering anniversaries, but they leave off some of the non-conventional truths about relationships.
Reassuring your ex that you have changed and that things will be different this time is basically a lie if you are honest with yourself. Many people do this but they are really referring to how they hope things will be in the future. People just don’t change that fast. Think about the people you know, they are more or less the same people they have always been. Sure they may change over time but it is a gradual process. You have to SHOW you have changed and this requires planning…..
